FAQ

Since I have received a few questions lately, I thought I’d post them and answer. If you have any you’d like me to add, feel free the contact me through the About the Author page.

Q: What is the Dark Ascension series?
A: The Dark Ascension series includes Land of No Angels, Land of No Mortals, Land of No Demons, and the short stories from Dark Ascension: A Demon Anthology Vol 1 & 2.

Q: What is Dark Ascension: A Demon Anthology
A: It will be a collection of short stories set prior to the Ascension (or demon apocalypse) referred to in Land of No Angels. So, it’s the same universe but about two years before the first book. Dark Ascension: A Demon Anthology has not been published yet, but some of its short stories have been released individually. Included in the anthology are the following:
Picture Evil
The Undertaking
Grinning in the Dark
-And More…

Q: What is The Afterlife of Rebecca Ashford?
A: This is a character blog that will update once every two weeks on Saturdays. The blog is in a journal-style from the point of view of the main character in Land of No Angels, Rebecca Ashford. Since Rebecca likes to draw maps and draw the demons they encounter, I thought it would be fun to post drawings as if she had done them. Additionally, by writing the journals with the drawings as if Rebecca had written them, readers can gain insight to events that were merely mentioned or implied in the book(s). There is no set timeline for Rebecca’s entries.

Q: Who is the artist for The Afterlife of Rebecca Ashford?
A: N.R. Wick does all of the drawings and paintings for the character blog.

Q: Are the demons in Land of No Angels vampires?
A: Not even close. You’d be surprised how many times I’ve been asked this, once even by someone who had read the first few chapters. There is nothing vampire-like about these creatures and many of them are not even humanoid. The demons in Land of No Angels are exactly what they’re called: Demons. The sort that come from Hell or try to posses people. The kind from ancient lore and belief systems. I’ve taken the typical lore and legends and twisted them to make them more unique and to fit the world I’ve built.

Q: I noticed you have a M.F.A in Creative Writing. Would you recommend aspiring authors, writers, or anyone else to get their MFA?
A: This is a tough one. I can’t tell you how many hours I googled this very question. Is the MFA necessary? Not really. Has it helped me get a job? No, in fact, it may have hindered. Was it worth getting my MFA? Yes. Earning my MFA helped me finish my debut novel and helped me hone my craft. It was an amazing experience that I wish I could continue to have all the time. I love the education setting, love learning, and just adored having a critical group of writers to help me with my work. With that said, it was expensive. If you are not 100% sure that the MFA is right for you, then I suggest joining or starting a critique group and/or surrounding yourself with educators and other writers.

Q: Who designs the covers for your books?
A: It really depends. Some of them I do myself, others I hire designers to do for me. For example, Grinning in the Dark and The Undertaking were done by me. Land of No Angels was done by Amanda Kelsey of Razzle Dazzle Design, as well the covers for the rest of the Dark Ascension Series. Picture Evil and Doppelganger, on the other hand, were done by Karri Klawiter. I highly recommend both of these artists.
